A lifetime in the languages profession

'Burn old logs... Drink old wines... Read old books... Keep old friends'. Thus Spanish King Alfonso X (‘the Wise’ or ‘the Scholar’) on what is established, time-honoured, proven.

This king knew a thing or two about experience, reliability, quality and trust. For business as on a personal level these factors are timeless. I can boast thirty years' work with languages: studying them, teaching them, translating them, and furthering my linguistic skills through an ongoing programme of continual professional development. I believe in and practise high standards of preparation and performance, reliability and professionalism .

I am a native Spanish speaker living in the U.K. since 1991. My interest in languages began at the tender age of four (!) when I envied my grandma because she could speak English. That interest never left me, and soon became a passion. I studied English and German at Santiago de Compostela University (Spain), Norwegian at Aberdeen College of Further Education (now North East Scotland College), and Scottish Gaelic, Irish and Latin at the University of Aberdeen, where I obtained first an MA (Hons) and then a PhD. I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, qualified to translate English to Spanish and Scottish Gaelic to Spanish. I am also the author of a scholarly monograph and several articles.

I have translated for publishers of educational books, the Spanish and American Navies, and the construction and oil and gas industries, among others. My long years living and working in the U.K. have equipped me with a sound knowledge of linguistic and cultural nuances, which I apply to my translation work for quality, accuracy and localisation optimisation.
